THEY may not yet be able to run around or even concentrate for 90 minutes – but even David Beckham and Christiano Ronaldo started young.

As well as running the Junior and Mighty classes, staff at Little Kickers have launched a new class called Little Kicks which aims to teach tiny tots aged from 18 to 27 months basic football skills.

In the process of taking a free kick, say staff, the children learn simple- problem-solving activities.

"It provides the perfect informal framework for encouraging our fledgling footballers to advance their basic attention-building and listening skills," said Plymouth and Tavistock director Sam Mansfield.

"By playing fun games that include specific actions and movements, children gain greater bodily control while simultaneously enhancing their blossoming balance, co-ordination and gross motor skills.

"Aside from learning how to strike stationary and moving footballs during directional play, children and parents also get the early opportunity to share those first unforgettable, goal-scoring adventures.

"In essence Little Kickers provides a fun, safe learning environment where your child will be encouraged to move from parent-supported participation to active independent interaction."

Little Kickers classes, for children aged between 18 months and their fifth birthday, are held in Plymstock, Plympton, Saltash and Woolwell.
