Matthew, husband and part time coach for Jodie Sloan, our franchisee in Ealing is going that extra mile to help the children of the city, well, an extra 100k to be exact. The 26 year old, serving member of the Royal Air Force, is trekking across the Sahara desert from Ouarzazate to Marrakech, covering 100k of endless sand dunes, vast white salt pans and immense plains. Matthew will trek on foot for 8 long, hard days, over some of the most inhospitable terrain you can imagine battling against soaring temperatures during the day, and camping under the stars at night in temperatures as low as 1c with only a sleeping bag for warmth. Matthew said “This is quite possibly the hardest thing I have attempted in my life so far. It’s easy to decide to do something but committing to such a great cause is challenge one and actually completing the Trek is Challenge two. I looking forward to the challenge immensely and have a great sense of achievement because I am doing something to directly help the needy children in the Capital.” Every penny raised by Matthew will go towards the Help a London Charity, in association with Capital FM. ‘Help a London Child’ helps to improve the lives of thousands of vulnerable children living in London today. Can you believe that 39% of our capitals children are living in poverty? HALC specialises in funding grass roots projects and supporting their work to improve the lives of children suffering from abuse, poverty, homelessness, disability and illness. “Last year HALC raised £1,040,406, benefiting over 120,000 children and young people. Matthew’s personal goal is to raise £2,500 before the end of the year. Matthew will only be able to achieve this goal with the help and support of friends, family and the local community, so any donation, no matter how small will be hugely appreciated. Matthew you would like to thank you in advance for any contributions and support.
